Somali pirates released trawlers and took
Japanese tanker

In early November Somalia pirates released two Korean-owned Tanzanian flagged trawlers, which had been held captive anchored off the Somalia coast since May.

The US Naval forces Central Command has confirmed that the trawlers Mavuno 1 and Mavuno 2 have left Somalia bound for Djubouti. The crew of 24 onboard the two trawlers are safe. The trawlers were en route from Mombasa to Yemen, when they were hi-jacked some 330 km off coast of Somalia in an area where ships are constantly in danger of being hi-jacked. Only the following week a Japanese chemical tanker, the Golden Norir with a crew of 23, was taken by pirates. The US destroyer Porter attempted to sink the pirate boats with missiles, but the hi-jackers managed to sail away with the tanker.
